JoAnn Lyons
Disability Program
JoAnn Lyons began her study of yoga over 35 years ago in
Indiana with Lorrie Collins. She then completed yoga teacher
training programs with Bobbi Goldin and Sam Dworkis in
Florida in the early 1990’s. In 1991 she began teaching yoga
in Vero Beach, Florida.
At the age of 51, she closed up her life in Vero Beach, rented
her house, stored her stuff, packed her dog and cat in her
Honda Accord and drove to Oakland, California to participate
in the first Advanced Studies Program at the Piedmont Yoga
Studio with Rodney Yee in 1996.
JoAnn holds an Advanced Relax & Renew Trainer Certificate,
from well-known yoga teacher and author, Judith Lasater, and
is one of a select group of Senior Teachers assisting Judith.
Since 2000, she has assisted Judith at her annual retreat at
the Feathered Pipe Ranch, in Helena, Montana, among other
retreats and workshops.
She credits her current teachers, Donald Moyer of The Yoga Room in Berkeley, California, and Judith Lasater
with helping her put herself back together again from a very old injury that left her dealing with chronic pain
for several years.
Since 1996, she has been sharing her love of yoga in classes for people with disabilities. Her teaching is
grounded in her observation and knowledge of the body, and her intuitive awareness
of both the needs and potential of her students. JoAnn offers workshops and apprenticeships on teaching
yoga to people with disabilities as well as private sessions and her public classes.
